A Spiritual Journey
Strange MagicI found a hardback version in a public library over 30 years ago as a I child in Scranton, PA. I took it to the checkout counter and found it was not one of their books! SOmebody had just put it on the shelves - I carried it with me all this time and learned it now sells for over $500 - I will not sell it for anything for to do so would be to lose my soul - and losing one's soul is the theme of this book - so it sits on my shelf - with my soul.
His early pieces are outstanding examples of American art.Lynn Ward's early masterpieces are fine examples of under-appreciated and virtually undiscovered artistic excellence. Any one of these pieces is undoubtedly a thought-provoking inspiration for creative individuals and a tribute to this talented author's insight into life and abilities to communicate such observations.

Grizzlies in the Wild

Kennan Ward is a wonderful, dedicated outdoor photographer.During a recent trip to Alaska where I was photographing Grizzly bears, I wanted to acquire a book or two that would be good representations of professional bear photography. I looked at many (and there are many good ones). Of the outstanding books I previewed, none were more professional and complete than Ward's. He is the consummate naturalist, always getting his pictures, but never to the detriment of the animal. He has many interesting stories to tell, and he tells them well. The cover photo is fantastic, and it is rivaled by many more inside the book. I have looked through this book several times since I returned from my trip, and it is a fine reminder of the Great Land... and a great animal. Thank you Mr. Ward.
Captivating portrait of Grizzlies in natural environment! As a former National Park Ranger, a naturalist, and a professional wildlife photographer, Kennan Ward presents a captivating view of grizzly bears in their natural surroundings. I was left in awe of these magnificent creatures.
FASCINATING ADVENTURE, COMPELLING PHOTOGRAPHY,RAW AND TRUEKennan Ward: "Grizzlies in the wild":This is the stuff that gets a "couch potato" out to the campsites! Nature at it's extreme, Indian legend, bears so huge and unique that they are known far and wide by their names alone, Carniverous and dangerous, the author respects them all. The tenacity of ward's pursuits and his dedication as a photographer, brings us one of the most informative, entertaining, inspiring and picturesque books that I've read in a very long time.

The Happy Prince and Other Stories
Published in Audio Cassette by Blackstone Audiobooks (March, 1995)
Average review score:

There is always some salvationIn these tales, most of them being sad and even very sad, Oscar Wilde looks for a way to save one's soul in front of the misery of the world. Anyone in society who lives in the upper classes does not necessarily see the ugliness and suffering of the world when one looks at the lower classes. But in these tales the Happy Prince, or the Selfish Giant, or any other character will manage to get salvation out of their upper class blindness, by opening their eyes to misery and suffering and by doing what they can to repair these pains and evils because they will realise they have to feel responsible for the world, because they are more powerful and could easily impose their selfish rule. But the giant will discover nature, if not God, punishes him for his selfishness. The nightingale will try to redeem a young student by giving him a red rose in a season when read roses do not bloom. And yet the student will not get the love he wants because he is nothing but a non-entity for the girl he would like to be loved by. There is also a very sad note in A Devoted Friend and how friendship can become a mask for selfishness, a nice appearance for an ugly and egoistic attitude. Those tales are sad and at the same time they convey a moral full of hope. All is not lost if the Happy Prince can give away his happiness for those who suffer, even if later the powerful of his society will reject him when he does not look happy and beautiful any more

Excellent beyond compare!!!!As a child I didn't have the books of Oscar Wilde but rather the records. My imagination soared with his descriptions of life, and my eyes overflowed with tears at each story. The record of the Happy Prince was read by Bing Crosby and Orson Wells and each year at Christmas we still play that old scratched thing, just to hear it's wonderous love story and that of The Selfish Giant. Now I have to get the book so my nieces and nephews will share in my treasures of love!!!! What is this world if it isn't all about Love?
wonderfully fancifulI remember this book from my childhood. I had my parents read each story to me over and over. When I learned how to read I read this book until the pages fell out. In short it is a great book that encourages youthful imaginations. And, it makes for great bedtime stories. A real classic. I bought it for my children.

Hare And The Tortoise

Should have won an awardI cannot believe this is not an award winning book. I have read many children's books lately, and to me this ranks right up there with the Caldecotts and other award winners. The illustrations are wonderful, depicting the animals realistically yet with very expressive almost human faces. The story has some nice humorous twists to it, and I found it very entertaining. There is even an educational aspect to it, as it includes an index of sorts to the animals depicted and a little information about them. I think any child would be delighted with this book, and might even be inspired to further reading about animals.
A children's dream come trueThe book is truly a dream come true for many children. I myself found the book to be soothing to a rejected child who is always to slow and never wins. This just goes to show that good sportsmanship and willingness makes the grade. I know that someday when I children that I will read this book to them rather they are the fastest most athletic kid in the class or the slowest and last picked kid in the class
Fabulous illustrations, engaging retelling of a classic.Helen Ward's illustrations are fabulous and she has retold this classic charmingly and engagingly. I am more and more impressed by Australian illustrators and writers. This is a must have.

Home to Brushy Creek: The War Was over but Ward Still Had Some Battles to Fight
Published in Paperback by Writers Club Press (December, 2000)
Average review score:

Have a good dayLet me tell you, "podnahs", Home to Brushy Creek is one of the best western stories I've ever read! It's right up there with the best that Louis L'Amour ever wrote. It is full of action and great characters, and it is written in folksy, easy to read, "good ol' Texas writin'". And being a Sheriff with 20 years of experience in dealing with all kinds of folks, I can tell you that the author makes his characters sound real--the villans as well as the good guys. He also does a great job in describing the shootouts that he tells about....That last battle that settles the question of who is going to rule Brushy Creek--Range Lord Bascom Clark or its good and decent townfolks--will have you holding your breath and sitting on the edge of your chair, I guarantee.... Ward Garrison, the story's main hero, is my kind of man...fearless, honest to a fault and can always be counted on when the chips are down. And all of you girl readers will love Sina, his gutsy little Irish-Quaker wife who is right by his side guarding his flank in every battle they have to fight. Home to Brushy Creek is an exciting story that will leave you feeling good all over. ...Go ahead, have yourself a good day... Sheriff Lacy Rogers San Jacinto County, Texas
Home to brushy creek by Howard BrattonDefinitely the book to read."Home to brushy creek"is eceptional, keeping your interest, with plenty of adventures and down to earth romancing.Have you ever wondered about the adjustments of a returning soldier from a long and tiring war,Mr. Bratton,s Ward realisticly lets you experience his battles and adventures to survive.I felt that I wanted to belong in Ward,s and Sena,s lives, they fought much for family and friends...surely, after hooking his readers,Mr.Bratton will do a follow up BOOK.
A review of Home to Brushy Creek by Howard R. BrattonI'd love to read a sequel to HOME TO BRUSHY CREEK! While I was reading it I was wishing that I could clone Ward, Sina and Maggie right off a page and have them for friends for the rest of my life. This is a story about the two bloody battles that were fought in the aftermath of the Civil War with all of its lingering anger and resentment---the first one in Marlin, Illinois, the second one a while later in Brushy Creek Texas. Ward and Sina play heroic parts in both battles, supported in each one by their families and a few friends against an array of hard-bitten killers of every stripe. Ward and Sina are not just a man and woman that you'd want to have on your side in a fight, they are fine examples of good citizens, and as Maggie once declared "...everyone should have friends like them".

Letters of a businessman to his son

VERY INSPIRINGI read it twice when I was young. I would have been too young to judge it on grammar or any deep meaning but I can tell you the book has sat in the back of my mind all of these years. I have refered it to many people and given it as gifts to people I respect... Thanks Kingsley!
Small pieces of advice that you may refer to again and againI origionally picked this book up from a library as a teen ager and later bought it. I find thoughtout my-life I refer to the corresponding chapter for some slightly conservative advice.
The book contains letters from a fairly successful businessman to his son. They start with school and continue with such topics as school, leadership, enterpreneurship, marriage ... etc. Would make a great gift..
The dad I never HadIf your father was short on words , like mine was, this is your personal "mentor in a box". It will also help you become a better father and teacher. If it is our of print, some local libraires might have it.

Great Story!I read this story to my six year old daughter and she
loved it. She loved it so much that we HAD to buy a book
for her first grade class. I went to a book signing in
Indianapolis and both Jennifer and Jordan were very sweet.
I know my daughter as well as myself would welcome any
books that this team produces.

Your visit to the pumpkin patch will never be the sameAfter reading Little Pumpkin to my son, our visit to pick out our pumpkins at the patch was more like a Hallmark moment. After looking at all of the pumpkins, my son brought me one of the smallest ones he could find. When I asked him why he picked such a small pumpkin, he looked at me and said, "Daddy, if I do not take this one home, what if no one does? Then he will be all alone for Halloween!"
Read this story and you will understand how my little boy felt. What a great lesson on self esteem as well.
A Timeless Classic Even After HalloweenThis book is beautifully illustrated and written. The theme of doing good things for others may reward you when you least expect it is one that I have been teaching my preschooler. But moreover that if you help others with a genuine heart, that is reason enough to help those who need it, that is the true reward. I never knew that a pumpkin with no facial features could be drawn with such emotion as Little Pumpkin and his pumpkin patch co-horts were. I met both the author and illustrator at a book signing and they were so sweet to my son. They took the time to talk with him and tell him how happy they were that he loved their book. I hope this is the first of many books for this duo!

The Lost Girl
Published in Audio CD by Blackstone Audiobooks (July, 2002)
Average review score:

Extroidinary NovelThis book was beautifully and passionately written. It is a love story unique and philosophical. Do we choose our own fates? Alvina will tell you.
Soul SearchingJust like SISTER CARRIE, THE LOST GIRL is about a young woman searching for her place in the world. Meaning, floucing from one man to another, flirting, playing, getting engaged then dashing away for fun. And just like JEANNIE GERHARDT, this old man gets herself in trouble.
But the most fascinating part of this book is it's glimps into her background. How she was brought up in a wealthy and rich household, only to try out different occupations against her father's wishes, then ends up as a lower classed female in life. Very tragic.
A Touching, Soul-Searching NovelI recently got done reading this wonderful, yet forgotten novel of Lawrence's. Truly compelling in it's intricate details of a young woman trying to find herself. Literally. She goes on the 'universal' self journey and discovers that she was lost and finally finds her identity and sensuality in the man she loves. D.H. Lawrence has a wonderful way of not wrapping up the ending in a nice, neat little package. As always, Lawrence is the ultimate man of mystery, sensual needs and desires. A "must read" for those who love to read Lawrence and for those who never have!

Great BookI bought this book in the mid 80's and I loved from the first page to the last.It contains letters of Advice from a father to a his son covering every aspect of life.Almost 15 years and belive it or not i still keep it next to my bed and read a letter or two every evening.Great staff and i sincerely recomed it.
Great AdviceThis book is advice a father ( the author) gave his son over the years of his upbringing. My father was never much of a talker, so when I first read this book in college, it explained alot of things I wish he had been able to tell me about. Now that I am having my own kids, I want to read it again so I be a great father too. This is a book you will keep and hand down (if you can find it) !
excellent advice for young men and womenMy father, a successful businessman, has long advised me and my sons to read this short but very worthwhile book. I have finally done so and have had my 17 year old read it. I highly recommend it for its common sense approach to the problems and opportunities which young people face

Maternity Ward: Final Flight of a WWII Liberator
Published in Paperback by Pine Castle Books (December, 1998)
Average review score:

Vivid WWII History"Maternity Ward" not only serves up a wealth of new information for Ploesti buffs, it provides a clear introduction for readers unfamiliar with the dramatic low-level attack on Romanian oil. The diary format and numerous personal photos give the book an air of immediacy not found in other histories of the 1943 mission. We feel a palpable sense of loss for the young men who did not return, relief for those who did. Stephen Ambrose cites "Maternity Ward" prominently in his recent "Wild Blue" -- with good reason, as Ms. Aronowitz's book is a "must-read" for anyone interested in the difficult conditions faced by airmen in the Mediterranean Theatre, and the courage they displayed in carrying out their duties.
VERY well done. Mystery solved after 60 years. For those of us devoted to the study of Operation Tidal Wave, Ms. Aronowitz has performed a great service. This excellent work gives us not only a close look at Bill Fay and his comrades who flew the low-level Ploesti raid of 8-01-43, but also re-writes aviation history by describing WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED to John Ward and his crew and aircraft. No other account of this mission reveals Ward & Anderson's Ionian Sea ambush and their subsequent amazing journey. All other accounts I've read have the entire crew being killed at the target. Great investigative reporting. Also, obviously a work of great love, which I heartily endorse, given that these young men took off knowing not only the danger, but the necessity of their actions. They thought that if they destroyed the target, other young men would not have to follow them. Well done, Ms. Aronowitz.
Maternity WardThis book was a very moving account of the life of the crew of a B-24 Liberator during WWII. Based on the daily writings of William Fay, the details of his stories have been thoroughly researched and explained by the author, so the reader knows exactly what William Fay was describing in his diary. The tragedy of war and death, the daily hardships of living in the windy, hot desert, and the tenseness of always awaiting news of the next mission, have all been weaved into a fascinating story.
Just last week my grown daughter came into my home office, excited about the concept of scanning pictures and ironing them on t-shirts. She saw God's Man by my computer where I put it to remind me to check its current availability. Her first reaction was excitement, "Oh, these would be great on a t-shirt". But then, as she started going through the book page by page, she quickly reconsidered. "No, I couldn't put any of these on a t-shirt. I grew up with this book and each one is so special to me. They are too sacred to put on a t-shirt."
God's Man has been a significant part of my family's spiritual journey and I am sure it will also be a part of future generation's explorations of the spiritual and the sacred.
Thanks to Eric S. Rosen Publishing for making it available today. I'm going to order several copies for family and friends! Might someone reprint it again in hard copy? I'd buy several hard copies as well!
